All About The Team

Board of Directors Biographies

President

Kristina Edwards is the Virgin Islands Director of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources – Division of Territorial Parks and Protected Areas and worked as the outreach coordinator for coastal zone management previous to this position.

Vice-President

Nicole Angeli is the director of the Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources – Division of Fish and Wildlife and has over 20 years of experience in wildlife and fisheries conservation management.

​

Secretary

Jamal Nielsen is the public information officer for the Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources and has worked on community messaging for over 25 years.

Treasurer
Michael Pede is a business entrepreneur that has worked to finance and manage businesses that help the Virgin Islands thrive for over 20 years.

Board Members

Olasee Davis is a professor at the University of the Virgin Islands and has worked in the realm of education, outreach, outdoors recreation, ecology, and natural history of the Virgin Islands his entire life.


Amy Dempsey is the president of Bioimpacts, Inc. and has worked on environmental compliance to protect marine environments for her entire life. She is also the owner of the Ocean Systems laboratory.

Stephanie Hodge is a realtor and has long experience working towards stewarding our lands for the next generation of Virgin Islands.

Consultant

  • Virginia Clairmont: With over 30 years of experience in nonprofit management, grant administration, program development and implementation, Virginia has successfully led numerous initiatives aimed at building local resilience and promoting environmental sustainability like the SeaWalls beautification project in Frederiksted and the community driven visioning project for the Frederiksted Fish Market. She has managed large-scale projects in partnership with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private sector stakeholders.

The Nature Association of the Virgin Islands (NAVI) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to enhancing the environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and overall well-being of communities in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI). The leadership team consists of seasoned professionals who saw a need to fill in the community, and they bring extensive experience in project management, environmental science, public health, community engagement, and disaster preparedness to the project.

 

NAVI aims to provide local residents with the resources and knowledge needed to respond to and thrive beautifully alongside nature. This includes the implementation of sustainable energy systems, job training, and the establishment of critical nature-based infrastructure.
